Product Overview

In today’s business environment of system consolidations, worldwide utilization, and “always-on” availability, enterprises need the world’s most powerful transaction processing monitor (TPM) infrastructure that includes the best-in-class transaction server to leverage existing skills and application assets, while delivering standards-based interoperability for simplified integration.

BEA Tuxedo is today’s platform of choice for C, C++, and COBOL solutions that provide the backbone for the world’s leading companies, running some of the largest mission-critical transaction processing systems—including wire transfers, ATMs, and telecommuncations systems.

Only BEA Tuxedo provides the rugged platform required to run these high volume applications across distributed, heterogeneous computing environments; enabling transactions that stretch from customer-facing, business-critical applications to back-office processes, across any system, anywhere in the world.

BEA Tuxedo’s multi-language, ‘build-to-scale’ transaction processing platform provides the mission-critical infrastructure your organization needs to:

  • Increase the accessibility of existing applications
  • Consolidate enterprise transaction and messaging solutions
  • Web services-enable core applications
  • Ensure the highest availability and throughput of applications
  • Increase processing efficiency and improve resource management
  • Reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

BEA Tuxedo Product Capabilities

BEA Tuxedo is built on a service-oriented architecture that utilizes a powerful messaging and transaction-processing engine to dramatically simplify enterprise distributed computing.

High performance messaging : At the heart of the BEA Tuxedo system is a high performance, highly reliable messaging engine that provides guaranteed once-and-only-once delivery. This engine provides synchronous, asynchronous, and conversational messaging APIs—all transparently, whether in one machine, a cluster of related machines, or across independent BEA Tuxedo Domains. Using data dependent routing, BEA Tuxedo can route messages based on their context and prioritization.

Service-oriented infrastructure : The BEA Tuxedo system is analogous to a Service Request Broker (SRB) and provides a service-oriented infrastructure for efficiently routing, dispatching, and managing requests, events, and application queues across BEA Tuxedo processes and applications.

Powerful APIs : By encapsulating complex transaction management—such as two-phase commit and heterogeneous resource management—into standards-based APIs, BEA Tuxedo provides IT organizations a powerful and user-friendly TP infrastructure for all their C, C++, and COBOL application needs.

Highly distributed transaction processing : BEA Tuxedo’s distributed processing management services optimize transactions across multiple databases and ensure data integrity across all participating resources and databases, regardless of access protocol. The system tracks transaction participants and supervises a two-phase commit protocol, ensuring that all transaction commits and rollbacks are properly handled within each distributed resource.

Management capabilities : BEA Tuxedo’s Web-based graphical administration automates many key management functions in a distributed system, minimizing operator intervention. In addition, the BEA Tuxedo System seamlessly integrates third-party SNMP management consoles to simplify application administration.

Unlimited Scalability and Reliability

Replicated services framework : BEA Tuxedo can automatically spawn additional services based on real-time system loads and throughput, ensuring the highest reliability and performance for your most demanding mission-critical applications.

Dynamic load balancing : BEA Tuxedo enables applications to handle requests in parallel and process multiple transactions simultaneously on different, distributed nodes.

Transaction queuing : For flexibility in processing or deferring transactions, BEA Tuxedo provides transaction queuing; allowing distributed applications to work together in an asynchronous, ‘connection-less’ fashion. Transaction queuing is a modular store-and-forward model that prioritizes queues and defers processing based on various criteria such as message context, message content, and time of day.

Monitoring : Ensuring constant access to applications, BEA Tuxedo continually monitors components for application, transaction, network, and hardware failures.

Operations, administration, and management (OA&M) services : With BEA Tuxedo’s robust OA&M services, which can restart and stop application services automatically, single points of failure are eliminated and applications are always available when and where customers and partners need them. In the event of a failure, BEA Tuxedo can logically remove components from the system and automatically re-route messages and transactions to surviving systems.

Security services : The system’s comprehensive security includes authentication, authorization, and link level encryption (LLE) security to ensure data privacy when deploying BEA Tuxedo applications across networks.

Plug-in security framework : BEA Tuxedo also provides a plug-in framework to support public key encryption, digital signatures, and third party security products for networked applications—enabling BEA Tuxedo to work within existing corporate security standards.

Extensible Infrastructure

BEA Tuxedo supports many different connectivity and interoperability standards, allowing enterprises to leverage BEA Tuxedo applications and services across other applications and solutions.

Domains Gateway (DG) architecture : The DG architecture supports interoperability among different messaging and TP applications running in separate environments, networks, geographic locations, and companies as well as across application services platforms—including BEA WebLogic Server® 9.2, TopEnd application integration, BEA MessageQ™ bridging, and BEA Tuxedo mainframe adaptors (to IMS and CICS).

BEA Tuxedo and BEA WebLogic® Platform 8.1

BEA Tuxedo’s service-oriented architecture allows enterprises to develop comprehensive, —composite—(or hybrid), end-to-end solutions uniting the availability and scalability of BEA Tuxedo with the extensibility of J2EE.

WebLogic Tuxedo Connector (WTC) : With tight integration between BEA Tuxedo and BEA WebLogic Platform via the WTC, IT organizations can easily extend and integrate BEA Tuxedo services with new and existing J2EE solutions. Utilizing a bi-directional, peer-to-peer protocol, WTC supports full transaction and security propagation (not delegated transactions) between BEA Tuxedo’s C, C++, and COBOL applications and BEA WebLogic Server and Platform J2EE tools and applications.

BEA Tuxedo and BEA WebLogic Workshop® : To ensure best practices and accelerate time-to-value when developing ‘composite’ solutions, Java developers can leverage the new Tuxedo Control, which dramatically simplifies Web Services generation, Web page flow application development, and portal and integration projects. Both enterprise developers and BEA Tuxedo partners can also use Workshop to rapidly create Tuxedo Control extensions (JCXs or ‘customer controls’) to access specific Tuxedo services.
