The Modernization Workbench® generates a wealth of business and technical knowledge about complex, diverse application portfolios. These insights are populated into the Modernization Workbench's repository, the Enterprise Application Knowledgebase. This knowledgebase provides centralized, always-current information that can be leveraged to execute the entire Enterprise Application Modernization lifecycle.

The Modernization Workbench's array of modules leverage and add to the information stored in the knowledgebase to accelerate application modernization and application maintenance activities. And through the Enterprise Application Modernization Framework, third-party technologies can integrate with and leverage the Modernization Workbench.

The application portfolios of most organizations contain a wide variety of languages and environments. To manage and understand these many systems used to require multiple tools and processes that drained time and resources. However, the flexibility of the knowledgebase and its adherence to OMG standards allows applications written in multiple languages to be available to Modernization Workbench users. Through the Modernization Workbench platform, even third-party parsers can be integrated to include their output in the Enterprise Application Knowledgebase.

The knowledgebase can be readily harnessed throughout the Enterprise Application Modernization lifecycle. For instance, insights generated during an application understanding initiative can be leveraged for generating application portfolio management decisions, delivering application modernization projects, or executing application maintenance activities.
